Supported interactions:
- Adding an item to a list, with Alexa, tell Skylight to add <something> to <listname>.
Alexa Skills are not compatible with Alexa+.
If you are an Alexa+ user, you will not be able to use the Skylight Skill. If you you want to disable Alexa+ in order to use the Skylight Skill, you can downgrade to Original Alexa by telling Alexa:
Alexa, end early access
Some users have reported issues with using the Skylight Skill, even after installing the skill and correctly saying the commands. We are working to improve the reliability as best we can. If you are having trouble with the Skylight Skill please let us know! Please send your comments to us at help@skylightframe.com.
The Skylight Skill
Installing the Skylight Skill
You can install the Skylight Skill with either a direct link, or by searching for it in the Alexa app.

- Open a browser on your phone.
- Navigate to the appropriate link for your region:
US: https://skills-store.amazon.com/deeplink/dp/B0FPGGC618
Canada: https://skills-store.amazon.ca/deeplink/dp/B0FPGGC618
UK/Ireland: https://skills-store.amazon.co.uk/deeplink/dp/B0FPGGC618
Australia/New Zealand: https://skills-store.amazon.com.au/deeplink/dp/B0FPGGC618 - Tap Open Alexa.

- Tap the More menu button.
- Tap Skills & Games.
- Search for Skylight.
- Tap on the entry for Skylight.
- Tap ENABLE TO USE.
Enabling the Skylight Skill
Once the Skill is installed, it must be enabled. To enable the Skill, link your Skylight account.
Enable the Skylight Skill:
- Enter your Skylight account username and password.
- Tap Log In.
- Tap Accept to allow Alexa to access your Skylight account.
The Alexa Skill will be able to read from and write to your Skylight account. - Tap Close.
With the skill installed and enabled, you are ready to use voice commands with Skylight.
Adding to Lists
To add an item to a Skylight list, say to Alexa:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add <something> to <listname>.
…where <something> is the item you want to add to the list, and <listname> is the list you want to add the item to.
If you do not specify a list, the item will be added to your Grocery List.
If you forget to start your command with tell Skylight, Alexa will apply your command to your Alexa account. For example, saying Alexa, add bananas will add “bananas” to your default Alexa list, not the Skylight Grocery List.
For example, say the following to add milk to the Grocery List:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add milk to grocery.
As another example say the following to add “renew library card” to the To-do List:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add renew library card to my todo list.
Alexa should also be able to understand more natural language:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add bread to my grocery list.

Troubleshooting
Alexa can sometimes have difficulty understanding speech. Here are some things to try if you are having trouble communicating with Alexa.
Repeat the Command
If Alexa doesn’t understand a command, the first thing to try is repeating the command. Make sure you start the command with:
Alexa, tell Skylight to…
Confirm That You Have Correctly Enabled the Skill
- Open the Alexa app on your phone.
- Tap the More menu button.
- Tap Skills & Games.
- Tap Your Skills.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen to find the Your Skills button. - Tap the Enabled tab.
The Enabled tab contains the list of installed skills. Check to list to make sure the Skylight Skill appears.
Alexa Says "Skill Not Available"
If Alexa responds with:
"Skill not available."
....check if your account is using Alexa+. Alexa Skills are not compatible with Alexa+, and the Skylight Skill will not work for Alexa+ users.
Confirm That You Are Not Using Alexa Plus
The Skylight/Alexa integration does not currently support Alexa Plus. If you have enabled Alexa Plus, you cannot use the Skylight Skill.
Check if you are using Alexa Plus by asking Alexa:
Alexa, do I have Alexa Plus?
Alexa will report whether or not you have Alexa Plus enabled.
If you have Alexa Plus enabled, Alexa will give you an option to disable it. Use this option to disable Alexa Plus if you want to use the Skylight Skill with your Alexa device.
Make Sure That You Are Using the Correct Commands
Alexa accepts a wide variety of commands, and some of the commands can be used interchangeably. We have noted in testing that some commands perform better than others with the Skylight Skill.
Begin all commands with:
Alexa, tell Skylight to…
Use tell to help Alexa understand that you are asking it to work with the Skylight Skill.
For example, the command:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add eggs to grocery list.
…will guide Alexa to add the item to the Skylight grocery list, and not some other list.
Using a different Alexa command instead of tell may result in Alexa not understanding the command.
Items Get Added to the Wrong List
If Alexa is adding items to your Alexa lists instead of Skylight lists, make sure to remember to tell Alexa to tell Skylight to add the item to a list.
Items Get Added to the Wrong Skylight Account
If you have multiple Calendar accounts (for example: you are part of your household’s Calendar, and also a member of your parents’ Calendar, each with separate lists, meals, calendars, etc.) Alexa will add items to your most recently created Calendar.
Ask Alexa, “Alexa, what can I do with Skylight?”
Sometimes, asking Alexa a question about Skylight can “remind” Alexa that the Skylight Skill is available.
If Alexa is not accepting commands to the Skylight Skill, try asking:
Alexa, what can I do with Skylight?
…and then try your command. For example:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add eggs.
Tell Alexa, “Alexa, open Skylight Skill.”
Sometimes, explicitly telling Alexa to open the Skylight Skill can “remind” Alexa that the Skylight Skill is available.
If Alexa is not accepting commands to the Skylight Skill, try saying:
Alexa, open Skylight Skill.
…Alexa should respond with: “Welcome to Skylight! You can add items to any Skylight list."
Then, try your command. For example:
Alexa, tell Skylight to add eggs.
Check if Alexa Correctly Received the Command
Alexa keeps a history of all of your commands. You can look at this history to see if Alexa is understanding you.
View the command history:
- Open the Alexa App on your phone.
- Tap the More menu button.
- Tap Alexa Privacy.
- Tap Review Voice and Text History.
By default, only the history from today will be shown. Tap Filters to adjust how much history you want to see.
The command history will be presented in a stack of boxes, each showing:
- How Alexa interpreted your command, in quotes and italics.
- The day and time of the command.
- The Alexa device that received the command.
You can also tap the down arrow icon in the upper left corner to show Alexa’s response, if one was given.
The command history can be very useful to us with helping you solve issues with the Skylight Skill. If you continue to experience trouble with Alexa accepting your commands, please:
- Open your command history (see above).
- Tap the down arrow icon
to show Alexa’s responses to commands it didn’t understand.
- Take a screenshot of the commands.
- Send the screenshot(s) to us at help@skylightframe.com.
You can control how long your Alexa commands are stored in the Manage your Alexa Data settings.
